English - Scheme of Work

In Key Stage 3 each year group has 6 units of work; one each half term.  At the end of each unit there is an assessment.  The units can be studied in any order.


Year 7

In year 7 every class starts with the story telling unit and there is an assessment early on in the term so that we can finalise the setting.

Story Telling Production of genre story.
Poetry Production of an anthology of their own poems.
Novel Production of  character and relationship study.
Media Production of a print advertisement with commentary.
Shakespeare Production of a creative piece of writing as Shakespeare about The Globe.
Non-Fiction Production of a theme park leaflet.

Year 8

Unit of work Assessment
Language Unit Production of a piece on Chaucer – role of narrator, Character description and moral to the tale.
Poetry Analysis of a piece of poetry using skills learned.
Pre 20th Century Novel Genre analysis including focus on social, historical, cultural use of language.
Media Audio-visual study using techniques learned.
Play Script Production of an empathetic piece of writing including use of quotations
Non-Fiction Research project.

Year 9
 
Unit of Work Assessment
SATs practice Completion of reading comprehension test in line with SATs reading paper.
Poetry Compare and contrast two poems using techniques learned.
Novel Essay on themes, morals and author’s intentions.
Media Production of a magazine in groups.
Shakespeare Completion of a practice essay in line with SATs Shakespeare paper.
Non-Fiction Project including all different text types.
